Since 1960, Thomson Meats Ltd. (Thomson’s) has grown from a small retail butcher shop in Naicam, Saskatchewan, to an integrated meat processing firm providing a variety of fresh and processed food items. In 1982 Thomson Meats Ltd. opened a new facility in Melfort, Saskatchewan.
In June 1991, Thomson Meats Ltd. was registered as a federally inspected meat plant under the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Further expansion was required in 1995 and 2006 to accommodate shipping quality meat products throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
Our Retail-Redi Program products include pre-cut, pre-priced beef, pork and poultry products that can be placed directly into the retail display freezers. Other products include a variety of processed meats, fully cooked meat items, smoked products and private label products. Our product lines are subjected to constant analysis to reflect consumer demand and quality needs.
In 2006, Thomson’s added toll processing services and products for others to its focus of selling its own branded and private label products. Furthermore, in November 2006, Thomson Meats Ltd. achieved HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) Certification which was a new CFIA requirement and has recently converted to CVS (Compliance Verification System).
With the establishment of the Saskatchewan Toll Processing Centre (STPC), the company’s focus expanded to provide toll processing services to organizations who wish to enter federally regulated markets, primarily with cooked product.
Thomson’s continues to pursue additional opportunities to expand its traditional line of business to become a major player in the Canadian market place. |
